Band
Marian Gold
vocals
Marian Gold, born on the 26th of May in 1954, founded Alphaville in 1983 together with keyboarders Bernhard Lloyd and Frank Mertens. Little did he know that the group’s electronic experiments in their basement rehearsal studio in Münster/Germany would result in international success and million selling albums. Continuing to record and tour since the 1990’s, Gold has been the nucleus of Alphaville eversince: front man, main composer, poet and vocalist.
Carsten Brocker
keyboards & machines
Hi, I’m Carsten. Growing up in the 80’s I became crazy about the sound of analogue synthesizers. I studied jazz-piano and worked as a keyboarder and sounddesigner for various projects and bands like Polarkreis 18 or jahcoozi. As I was listening to Alphaville already as a child it feels amazing to join the band as a keyboarder now.
Lars Kutschke
guitars
Back in the 1980s, people used to record songs from radio shows onto cassette tapes. When 10-year-old Lars Kutschke got his first recorder, the very first song he captured was “Big in Japan.”
Since becoming a professional guitarist in the late ’90s, Lars has toured in over 40 countries, performing at clubs and festivals around the world. He’s released three solo albums and has written and produced for other artists. Joining Alphaville feels like coming full circle — performing alongside the very heroes who first inspired him.
Jakob Kiersch
drums
Hello, I am Jakob Kiersch. Born in the 70’s. Addicted to drums since the 80’s. Danced to the music of Alphaville for the first time in 1984. Began playing in bands in 1985 and have been on the road ever since. I was asked to join Alphaville as a drummer in 2009 and am proud to be a part of the family.
Alexandra Merl
bass
Hello, I’m Alexandra Merl. I was born in 1984 and live near Munich/Germany.
I studied at the Bass School Munich and played numerous live gigs, German TV shows and recordings. Since July 2016 I’m on stage with Alphaville and proud to play such great and timeless hits like “Forever Young” or “Big in Japan”.
Elisabeth Markstein
Background Vocals
Hi, I‘m Elisabeth. I was born in the late 70‘s in East Germany and I live in Dresden. Having discovered my love for singing already as a young girl, I studied Jazz-singing in Dresden and Musical/Acting in Hamburg. Since 2001 I‘ve been playing roles in numerous big musical/theatre productions all over Germany, worked as a vocalist with various bands and had a couple of great solo projects. In 2023 I‘ve been asked to join the Alphaville family – That’s simply wonderful!
Ulrike Weidemüller
Background Vocals
I am Ulrike, a true Berlin girl. Born in the 80s and growing up with parents that both are musicians I had no choice but becoming one as well. Being surrounded by music 24/7 and annoying the people around me with harmonizing every song I heard, it quickly became clear that being a singer was the only way to go. After touring with many amazing acts over the past years and the occasional excursion into acting, it is an absolute honor to now join such a legendary band as Alphaville.
